Madikeri Kannada Sahitya Parishad warns merchants

Madikeri, Sept 30: District Kannada Sahitya Parishad President T P Ramesh has warned merchants against displaying boards in alien languages.

Talking to newsmen here he said that the shops and business establishments should display boards only in Kannada by October end.

If they fail, such boards would be painted with black colour from November first, he warned.

He regretted that many establishments have put their boards in English and Malayalam in Kodagu and they should be changed with the immediate effect.

The Parishad has decided to welcome the Suvarna Karnataka cultural troupe which passes through Kodagu between October Five and Nine. The Parishad meeting held yesterday has also decided to insist upon the Gram Panchayaths to hoist Kannada flag on November first.

The members noted that the GPs have ignored the direction from the Zilla Panchayath to hoist Kannada flag, two years ago. The Parishad has decided to keep a watch on such GPs this year and lodge a complaint to Zilla Panchayath.

The Parishad also decided to support the bandh call of October fourth.
