Afzal case: Life returns back to normal in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 30: Life returned to normal in the Kashmir valley where massive protest against a Delhi court's order to hang Afzal Guru, the prime accused in the Parliament attack case, left about 100 demonstrators, police personnel and journalists wounded during the past three days.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) who was under house arrest since September 28, was released late in the last night.

Similarly, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shabir Ahmad Shah and Hurriyat Conference (Omar) leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan, who were also put under house arrest yesterday to prevent him to lead protest demonstrations in the city, were also released.

Shops and business establishments reopened here this morning after a day-long general strike yesterday in response to Mr Geelani's strike call.

Work in government offices, banks and educational institutions was also normal.

About 100 people mostly demonstrators, police personnel and journalists were injured in the city during protest demonstrations against the Delhi courts order during the past three days.

A Majority of the injured have been discharged from hospitals after first-aid.
