K Retnan new president of ICCI

Kochi, Sep 30 (UNI) K Retnan of the city-based Scansea Services has been unanimously elected as President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) for 2006-07.

Mr Retnan was elected at the 109th annual general meeting of the chamber held here yesterday under the chairmanship of outgoing President Balagopala B Pai.

Mr R Mohandas was unanimously elected Vice-President, a chamber release said here today.

Mr Anilkumar N Prabhu, Mr K S Sabu, Mr N Radhakrishnan, Mr Sadiq H Kapasi and Mr Shiv Kumar Agarwal were also elected to fill vacancies in the 28-member managing committee.

Freedom fighter and CPI leader Comrade Jai Singh no more

Moga, Sep 30 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter and CPI leader Comrade Jai Singh died last night at his native village Daudhar in this district of Punjab. Daudhar, who was 98, was not suffering from any serious ailment and passed away last night due to old age, family sources said.
