JIPMER staff call of stir

Puducherry, Sep 30 (UNI) Normalcy returned to the JIPMER Hospital today as employees called off their 22-day strike and resumed duty following a direction from the Madras High Court.

JIPMER Employees Struggle Committee Lleader Arokiyam Kalaimathy told newspersons the staff were resuming duty following the court's directive.

Meanwhile, the committee leaders are holding talks with the JIPMER director regarding the termination of nurses. The court has asked the institute's administration to deal with the issue.

The employees started their indefinite strike on September 8 to protest the grant of autonomous status to the institution, throwing medical services into disarray.

TOKYO, Sep 30 (Reuters) A wealthy Japanese businessman accused of killing British woman Lucie Blackman sent 100 million yen (850,000 dollars) to the former British Airways flight attendant's family, Kyodo news agency reported on today.
