Jakhar seeks legal status of RSS ban lifting

Bhopal, Sep 30 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar has sought clarification from the state's BJP government on the 'legal status' of its decision to lift ban on government employees from participating in the activities of RSS.

The Governor had sent a letter to the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in this regard on September 25, official sources said today.

The sources said the Governor sought the clarification on the basis of a memo received from Leader of the Opposition, Jamuna Devi questioning the legality of the government decision to lift the ban imposed during previous Congress regime.

The Chief Minister had justified the lifting of the ban saying RSS was a cultural organisation and not a political one.

Meanwhile, the state government is yet to respond to the Governor, who had sought certain clarification on religious conversions that took place in the state in the light of fresh Freedom of Religion Bill passed by the Assembly. The Governor is yet to give his assent to the bill, which provided for regulating conversion.
