Internationally renowned fusion violinist to enthral audience in Goa

Panaji, Sep 30 (UNI) Internationally renowned fusion violinist S Harikumar is all set to enthrall the audience in Goa tomorrow, kickstarting this tourist season's bouquet of entertainment events.

Mr Kumar, who captured spectators for 18 months in Europe at various festivals and concerts, is probably the only violinist who uses a seven-stringed electric instrument with ease. It is a violin, cello, viola and double bass - all roled into one.

''Each octave sounds different, thus giving it the effect of a well-knit orchestra,'' the artiste who originally hails from Trivandrum told UNI.

Recepient of the prestigious Violin Chakravarthy, he is set to mesmerise the audience at the picturesque Highway Village resort in Porvorim tomorrow under the aegis of ''Trancemedia, a popular entertainment company in Goa.

It is the first show of the Trancemedia ever since Mudhit Gupta, chairman of Emgee Corporation, a Mumbai-based real estate gaint, had entered into strategic alliance with the entertainment company's owner, Armando Gonsalves recently.

''Realising the hidden potential of the Trancemedia's event management potential in Goa and abroad, we had entered into the alliance to develop the company into a global entertainment gaint,'' Mr Gupta said.

He had been in the real estate industry for the last two decades and had successfully constructed over a million square feet of commercial and residential projects within and outside Mumbai.

''We expect to derive synergic benefits in the world of music through our shows that provide a platform for talent in Goa and outside,'' Mr Gonsalves said.

Both said they had drawn up plans to kickstart events across the country besides Dubai and Bahrain, beginning with Mr Harikumar's performance tomorrow.

The company had also approached the event manager of the International Film Festival of India(IFFI) for giving it an opportunity to participate in the edition beginning here from November 23.

Mr Harikumar, who was the student of legendary Dr L Suramaniam, had performed at the Winston Churchill Hall and will soon do it at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in England.

On his arrival in India, he had rendered a performance to a packed audience in Mumbai a few days ago.

Tomorrow, he will play along with a fusion band that boasts of the likes of Sanjay Maroo, a versatile drummer who had performed with Dinshaw and others.

The south Indian percussion section includes the ganjira, the tabla, the mridanmgam and the ghatam. He will be backed by a pianist and a lead guitarist.

The other band to perform is Interplay comprising legendary Don Saigal, who used to perform with Louiz Banks and Braz Gonsalves in Kolkata. He is a fabulous singer and a part-time percussionist.

Interplay consists of, besides Saigal and his dauighter Sonia, Harmet Manseta, a brilliant young pianist, Adrian D'Souza on drums and Rushad on bass.
