HPU has no role in HPCPMT paper leak case, says Governor

Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Chancellor, V S Kokje, today gave a clean chit to the university in the HP Combined Pre-Medical Test (HPPMT) paper leak case, saying none of its employee was found involved in the scam.

Presiding over the meeting of the university court here, he said there was no procedural lapse on the part of the University in conducting the test.

Mr Kokje said even the findings of one-man inquiry of the former Controller of Examinations had been upheld by the High Court.

However, he directed the authorities to take precautionary measures to prevent incidents like these from reoccurring.

He also emphasised the need for institutional machinery to counter negative publicity and to place the viewpoint of the University before the public.

The court meeting, held after gap of two years, approved the annual report and annual accounts for the year 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.

It also elected Jogindernagar MLA, Surender Pal Thakur, member of the Executive Council.

Indira Gandhi Medical College Principal, Surender Kashyap, and Prof Ashu Gupta were unanimously elected members of Medical Council and Dental Council of India respectively.

The Governor also emphasised the need for checking superfluous expenditure while meeting the due requirements of its students, staff and faculty.

While advocating the need to set up a Financial Commission for the universities, he pointed out that such a Commission should look into the requirements of universities in the state after hearing their requirements.
