Heavy rains likely in Chhattisgarh

Pune, Sep 30 (UNI) Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur at most places in Chhattisgarh.

Heavy rains are likely to occur at most places in Orissa, Vidarbha, coastal Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at many places in east Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala.

They are also likely to occur at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, Rayalaseema, north interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep, at isolated places in east Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, east Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.

Dry weather prevailed over the west Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch.

The south-west monsoon has subdued over Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rayalseema and interior Karnataka.

Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and northeast Rajasthan. They were normal in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and southeast Rajasthan. However, the temperatures were normal in Punjab, from where the south-west monsoon has withdrawn.

Heavy rains had occurred at most places in Chhattisgarh and coastal Karnataka.

Very light rains had occurred at isolated places in Marathwada and Rayalaseema.

Rain or thundershowers had occurred at most places in Bihar and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They had occurred at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa.

The rain or thundershowers had also occurred at a few places in Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala, at isolated places in east Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka.

Dry weather prevailed over Arunachal Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Lakshadweep.

Rainfall predicted in MP

Bhopal, Sep 30 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive rainfall courtesy a low-pressure area built in upper atmosphere of southern Chhattisgarh. Meteorological department said rainfall occurred in various parts of Chhattisgarh, including in Bastar and Raipur divisions, due to low-pressure area built over southern part of that state. Jagdalpur turned out to be the wettest place overnight recording seven cm rainfall, while Raipur, Champa and Pendra received two cm rainfall each. Heavy.....

Govt clears United Western Bank-IDBI merger

Mumbai, Sept 30: The Central Government today sanctioned the Scheme for the amalgamation of United Western Bank (UWB) with Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) effective from October 3. Accordingly, all the branches of (UWB) will function as branches of IDBI with effect from the aforementioned date, said a RBI release here today. Customers, including depositors of UWB, will be able to operate their accounts as customers of IDBI from that date.IDBI is making necessary.....

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) Mr Shivshankar Menon, a 1972 batch Indian Foreign Service Officer, will take over as Foreign Secretary tomorrow. Mr Menon, who was India's High Commissioner to Pakistan, will have a tenure of three years till July 2009. He will succeed Mr Saran who has been made Special Envoy for negotiations relating to the civilian nuclear agreement between India and the United States.
