Four killed in inter-tribal clash in Pakistan

KHAR, Pakistan, Sep 30 (Reuters) At least four people were killed and two others critically wounded in a gunbattle between feuding tribesmen in northwest Pakistan, an administrator for the region today said.

Pakistan's semi-autonomous Pashtun tribal lands have become best-known for the hunt for Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda in recent years, but there has been a long history of violence in a region where family feuds can last for generations.

''Four people were killed in cross-fire between two sub-tribes on the border of Bajaur and Mohmand agencies,'' said Muhammad Fahim Khan, an administrator for Bajaur, one Pakistan's seven tribal agencies on the northwest frontier with Afghanistan.

An intelligence official, who requested anonymity, said six people had died and two were in a critical condition.

Bajaur is at the other end of the tribal belt from Waziristan, where Pakistan's fight against al Qaeda has been concentrated.
