Farmers not to be compelled by MIDC to sell land

Pune, Sept 30: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will not acquire land forcibily and indiscriminately from farmers.

The farmers would also be suitably compensated, by offering them the prevailing market-prices for their land, he assured.

Talking to reporters about the state government's policy, the Chief Minister clarified that the government agency, MIDC, will acquire land that would be willingly given by the farmers.

He reiterated that the government will not take away lands forcibly for creating Special Economic Zones, and the farmers will get adequate compensation as per the market rates.

''Only wastelands, barren lands and single crop lands will be taken up for SEZ'', he said.

Traders for regularising shops as on Dec 31, 05

New Delhi, Sept 30: Traders in Delhi today met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and demanded a Constitutional amendment for regularising all business establishments as on December 31, 2005.During their meeting with the Home Minister, the delegation of traders, led by the Confederation of All India Traders, discussed at length various issues related to sealing and demanded that the Union Government protect the traders, their employees and their families from sealing.Accordingly, the delegation demanded a Constitutional Amendment.....

'Death penalty of Afzal should not be commuted'

Jammu, Sept 30: BJP and other members of the Sangh Parivar, including the Vishwa Hindu parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and the Durga Vahini have warned the Centre not to commute the death penalty awarded to Mohd Afzal Guru, the mastermind of the December 13, 2001 Parliament attack.In separate statements issued here, the four saffron outfits strongly advocated not to yield to any pressure to commute the death sentence of Afzal Guru.BJP state unit spokesperson Hari Om said.....
