Durga Puja celebrated with full enthusiam in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 30: Durga Puja has been celebrated with much fervour and enthusiam at several places in Manipur.

Thousands of devotees thronged the Hiyangthang Lairembi, one of the most important Durga temple near here.

Goddess Durga is believed to have come down on Earth to fulfill the wishes of the people and hence the Mahastami is celebrated as 'Bor' here.

The state transport directorate had implemented new traffic rules in view of increasing number of vehichles at various places.

The entire stretch leading to the Hiyangthang Lairembi was filled with thousand of devotees who have been waiting for hours since dawn to offer prayers.

Security had been beefed up keeping in view the millitant attacks here, sources said.

There is an air of festivity with people hopping from one tableau to another, besides, chanting of mantras and hymns along with sounds of conchs charge the air with a magical mood.

New Delhi, Sept 30: Mr G K Pillai of 1972 batch of the Indian Administrative Service took over as Commerce Secretary here today.He succeeds Mr S N Menon who superannuated. Advani asks government to intervene in UNI takeover issue
