Mysore gearing up for the famous 'Jamboo Savari'

Mysore, Sept 30: The City of Palaces Mysore is gearing up for the world famous 'Jamboo Savari' on Vijayadashami day to mark the completion of nine day Navarathri festival.

The uniqueness of this year's Vijayadashami on October Two was that it coincides with the Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahamata Gandhi.

The grand finale of the Dasara festivities, which began on September 23, with just 40 hours to go for the Dasara Procession, count down has already began with the city gripped in the intenced festive fever. Authorities are leaving no stone unturned to make the event a grand success and it become a memorable one in the minds of public as it was held on the eve of 'Suvarna Karnataka,' 50 years of formation of Karnataka.

The five km long procession would be flagged off by the Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy after performing pooja to the Nandigawara in front of the Mysore Palace. Deputy Chief Minister B S Yeduyurappa and Scion of Mysore Royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharja Wadiyar would offer pooja to the Goddess Chamundeswari Idol which would be in the Golden Howdah being carried by the 49 year old elephant Balarama.

There has been a big influx of tourists including a good number of foreigners. Over 1500 foreign tourists are expected to witness the procession among them 600 tourists are from USA, China and Africa. Added to this, the Information Technology giants like Infoys, Wipro and many other companies at Mysore, Bangalore and Hyderabad have plans to bring their prominent clients and trainees from India and abroad to witness the procession. Nearly 2000 tickets already purchased by them. All the hotels and accommodation were fully booked. Even the home stay in the more than 30 houses was also booked for three days from today.

Meanwhile, the private Durbar held at the Mysore Palace by the Royal family and Mr Wadiyar brought back the memories of erstwhile Maharajas.

UP DGP warns cops having nexus with criminal

Lucknow, Sep 30 (UNI) Claiming substantial improvement in law and order of Uttar Pradesh, Director General of Police (DGP) Bua Singh today warned of strict action against policemen having a nexus with criminals. Promising to act tough on errant cops, the DGP said no policeman would be spared if found involved in any criminal activity. ''A drive has already been launched in this regard.'' The assertion of the state police chief comes in wake.....

VHP condemns Azad, Mehbooba for seeking pardon for Afzal

Mumbai, Sep 30 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Venkatesh Abdeo today condemned Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for seeking pardon for Afzal Guru sentenced to death for his involvement in terrorist attack on Parliament. In a statement here, Prof Abdeo said, ''With this action, both Azad and Mufti have openly come out in support of anti-Indian Islamic terrorists,'' he said and demanded to know.....

Mamata better, Trinamool unlikely to attend all party meet

Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) Even as condition of Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee is ''clinically'' improving, her party is unlikely to attend the all party meeting convened by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Singur issue. Doctors at a city nursing home, where Ms Banerjee is being treated, said, ''Ms Banerjee is clinically improving, but she would be kept under close observation for another 48 hours.'' Mamata Banerjee was admitted on Thursday following complaints.....
