Centre unveils action plan for North East

Aizawl, Sept 30: Alarmed at the bamboo flowering across the NE region, the Centre has envisaged a comprehensive action plan to tackle the bamboo flowering here.

Under the plan, a number of schemes amounting to Rs 366 crore would be implemented.

The Forest and Environment ministry has constituted a permanent committee to monitor the action plan.

Official sources said the Ministry has also sanctioned about Rs 80 crores for all entire region including Tripura to boost the bamboo cultivation.

However, Mizoram has got the maximum allocation of Rs 23 crore of the total outlay.

Both Mizoram and Tripura have been witnessing massive bamboo flowering during the last few years.

Asom and Meghalaya would receive Rs 13 crore and Rs 6.8 crore to boost bamboo cultivation under the action plan with Manipur and Nagaland Rs 9.9 crore and Rs 8 crore respectively.

Hundreds of passengers in Andaman cry foul on Air Deccan

Maoist ultras kill RJD leader

Latehar, Sep 30 (UNI) Maoist insurgents shot dead Rashtriya Janta Dal's (RJD) district secretary Kailash Chandravanshi in Harkha village here last night, police today said. According to police, one Rajendra Singh of the same village took the assistance of the proscribed naxal outfit CPI (Maoist) to kill Mr Chandravanshi due to some dispute over land property.
