24 tortoise seized, 2 arrested

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) Delhi Police today busted a racket dealing in animals banned under the 'Wildlife Protection Act' and seized 24 tortoises and arrested two people from Dilshad Garden area of North-East Delhi.

While 13 tortoises were seized from the residences of Krishnanadu Datta (52) and Deepak David (25) in Dilshad Garden, the rest were recovered from their supplier Ashok Vishwakarma's house in the neighbouring Sahibabad (UP), said the police.

Investigations revealed that the accused were carrying out the illegal trade under the guise of running an aquarium shop.

Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said Shimla Doordarshan was covering 85 per cent population of the state with the inauguration of the 39th Very Low Power Transmitter (VLPT) here. Speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the 39 VLPT here, he said 15 lakh people of the state, residing in remote areas of the state would now be able to watch Shimla Doordarshan Kendra with the linking of the transmitter......

Bank loans earmarked to common man

Vuyyur (Andhra Pradesh), Sep 30 (UNI) Indian Bank Manager Ramachandra Rao today said 44 per cent of the loans extended by the bank were earmarked for common man and 18 per cent for the agricultural sector.
