Army Chief reviewed the situation of counter insurgency in J

Jammu, Sep 29 (UNI) The Chief of Army Staff General Joginder Jaswant Singh, reviewed the situation of counter terrorism here today.

In a high level meeting at the Corps Commanderate Nagrota General Singh apprised the commanders regarding the degree of operational preparedness and steps being instituted to check infiltration and control terrorist activities in the Hinterland.

Earlier, the Army Chief arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit to White Knight Corps. He was received by Lieutenant General Deepak Kapoor, and the GOC-IN-C, Northern Command Lieutenant General T K Sapru, White Kinght Corps.

Later, General Singh visited Rajouri, Poonch and Maniyarwala. He was briefed by the respective formation commanders on ground regarding various counter infiltration and counter terrorism operations being conducted.

The Army Chief expressed his deep satisfaction at the prevailing security situation and lauded the troops on ground for their dedication and doggedness to operated in such hostile terrain condition's and fighting the menace of terrorism.

He particularly commanded the commanders, the troops for following the 'velvet glove and iron fist' policy enunciated by him soon after taking over as the Army Chief and for conducting people friendly operations.

The General will also be inaugurating the Army Shooting Nodal at Akhnoor tomorrow which will be the nodal agency to train army shooters for various national and international level competitions.

Zaheer Khan cleared to play for Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) Discarded India left arm pace bowler Zaheer Khan will represent Mumbai for the coming season after his transfer request from Baroda was accepted by the Mumbai Cricket Association Managing Committee here today. The letter required from the Baroda Cricket Association seeking permission for Zaheer to represent Mumbai from this season onwards, was forwarded to the MCA which accepted the proposal at its managing committee meeting today, MCA secretary Lalchand Rajput.....

Madrid, Sep 29 (UNI) India squandered a goal's advantage and suffered their second successive defeat in the Women's Hockey World Cup after Germany scored twice in the last 10 minutes to win 3-2 in a Pool 'A' match here today. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at half-time. The Indian girls fought hard against their mighty opponents and were on the verge of scoring an upset win after leading 2-1 with under 10 minutes to play.....
