Session in Belgaum an annual affair: Kumaraswamy

Belgaum, Sept 28: A session of the Karnataka legislature here will be an annual affair henceforth, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said here today.

The session aimed to bring harmony between marathi and kannada speaking pupulation besides helping in removing the feeling of regional imbalance in the state, he said during the occasion of address by Governor T N Chaturvedi to the special session to mark the golden jubilee of state formation.

He said the state government had taken decision to convene the special session not only to impress the union government to implement the Mahajan Commission report on border dispute but also remove the feeling of the people of the region of neglecting in terms of developmental activities.

He said his government, which was formed with one point programme of 'Development', would strive to achieve all-round and comprehensive development of the state giving equal focus to all the region and all sections of the people.

Mr Kumaraswamy informed the members of both Assembly and Council that a permanent structure for holding the session in Belgaum would be built and expressed confidence that it would help to bring amity between Marathi and Kannada speaking people living in the border of Maharashtra.

He said the policies and developmental works would be guided by the recommendations of the Dr Nanjundappa Committee report which had dealt with the issue of removing regional imbalance and also suggestions to achieve the goal of overall development of the state.

The chief minister also referred about the initiative the coalition government had taken to give more focus of the region including establishment of Engineering University, Women University, completion of major Irrigation projects and also giving focus on IT and BT in Northern Karantaka.

DCI dividend at 150 pc; in talks with West Asian Cos for JVs

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Visakhapatnam-based government-owned shipping major Dredging Corporation of India Ltd (DCI) today declared a dividend of 150 per cent, on equity shares of Rs 10 each in the paid up capital of the company. The net amount of final dividend payable would be Rs 9 per equity share of Rs 10 each. The 150 per cent dividend includes the 60 per cent declared by company early in February this year......

Railway earnings up 19.24 per cent

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Sustaining its growth momentum, the Railways earned Rs 1592.50 crore during September 11-20 this year as compared to Rs 1335.59 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.24 per cent. The total goods earnings went up to Rs 1052.50 crore from Rs 861.56 crore during this period last year, an increase of 22.16 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings were pegged at Rs 476.98 crore.....

Indian diaspora meet to be held in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 28: The fifth "Pravasi Bharatiya Divas" will be held here during January 7-9 next year.This is for the third time that the all-important meet of the Indian diaspora is being held in Delhi.
