Thousands take a dip in Cauvery on 'Mahalaya Ammavasya'

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 22 (UNI) Thousands of people from various parts of Tamil Nadu today took the ritualistic bath in the River Cauvery and performed 'shradda' to their ancestors on the occasion of 'Mahalaya Ammavasya.' The 'Amma Mandapam Bathing Ghats' was crowded with people paying respects to the departed with the help of priests. Special poojas and rituals had been organised in various temples on the occasion.

Durg (CG), Sep 22 (UNI) Five people, including two babies, were killed when their vehicle fell into Shivnath River at Phulgaon near here at midnight, police said today. The vehicle was heading towards Dondilohara when it plunged into the swollen river while passing through a bridge. Sanjay Lodha (34), his wife Sarika (32), his six-month-old son, his sister Varsha (28) and her two-month-old daughter were drowned. The driver Appu and their servant swam to safety.....
