Soz appeals for more Haj quota for J and K

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-Din Soz today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to increase the Haj Quota for Jammu and Kashmir this year to accommodate all those who had been left out due to some reasons.

In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Prof Soz said that out of 12890 applicants, 6617 had already been selected and now 6273 more needed to be accommodated for the pilgrimage this year.

Prof Soz had also met the Prime Minister earlier and written to him on September eight.

AP Govt prohibits sacrificing of animals on Vijayadashami

Hydrabad, Sept 22 (UNI)The Andhra Pradesh Govt today prohibited sacrificing of animals on the occasion of Vijayadashami, falling on October two by invoking the AP Animals and Birds Sacrifices(Prohibition) Act. The Additional Director General of Police(Legal) M Bhaskar directed all the Superintendents of Police and Commissioners to enforce the Act and take necessary action against violators, according to a statement issued here. Drop autonomy move for JIPMER: CPI(M)

Puducherry, Sep 22 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) today urged the Centre to drop the proposed move to grant autonomous status to the Centrally- administered JIPMER hospital here. Govt implementing Jayati Ghosh recommendations: Minister

Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said the Government was implementing the recommendations of Jayati Ghosh Commission which had studied the circumstances that led to farmers committing suicides in the State. Addressing a review meeting with officials of different departments, he said of the 170 recommendations, 129 were implemented. Mr Reddy said some of the recommendations required central clearance and hence the delay. It was decided to.....
