Rs 2.78 lakh looted from trading agency employees

Varanasi, Sep 22 (UNI) In a broad daylight incident three masked criminals looted Rs 2.78 lakh in cash from the employees of a trading agency at gun point in Sigra area here today.

Police said here that the agency employees including Ranjit Bhattacharya, Rajiv Kapoor and Mahendra Sarkar (driver) were going to deposit Rs 2.78 lakh in cash at a bank in Rathyatra locality.

When the car reached near the Sigra stadium, three masked criminals on a motor cycle intercepted the four-wheeler and snatched the bag containing the cash at gunpoint. The criminal trio fled from the scene immediately thereafter, police added.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding criminals.

Two run over by goods train

Sambalpur, Sep 22(UNI) Two workers were ran over by a goods train at Badmal near Jharsugura late last night, Police today said. The labourers were working under a contractor farm in-charge of electrification in a private industry. The deceased were identified as Laxman Bag (20) of Sarbahal and Gautam Biswal (20) of Belpahar. Puri sadar residents oppose land for Vedant University

Puri, Sep 22(UNI) The residents of several villages of Puri sadar have demanded clarification from the state government on actual requirement of land for the Vedanta University. While the state government had stated that the varsity would be located over 8000 acres of land, a report from Vedanta sources said it would require ten thousand Acres of land. Sarpanch ''returns'' unreceived President's award

Anand, Sep 22 (UNI) The Thamna village sarpanch has decided to ''return'' the President's award because although announced two years back, he was yet to receive it. Sarpanch, Chandrakant Patel, in a letter to Union Panchayat Raj Minister Mani Shankar Iyer today, lamented the award announced for him has still remained elusive. He would, therefore, like to ''return'' the award ''thankfully'' back and he has sent a copy of the letter to the President......
