RJD stages dharna to demand subsidy on diesel

Patna, Sep 22 (UNI) The RJD today staged block level dhrana throughout the state to demand subsidy on diesel as announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Addressing mediapersons here, RJD principal general secretary Ram Kripal Yadav said a large number of party workers staged demonstration before the block offices throughout the state, raising slogans to protest the ''failure'' of the state government in providing diesel at subsidised rate.

He said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced subsidy of Rs 10 per litre of diesel to the farmers for irrigation but it had not been implemented as yet and the farmers were moving from pillar to post in quest of relief.

The NDA government was only engaged in making hollow announcements to mislead the people and none of it was implemented, he alleged.

He charged the NDA government with being insensitive on the issue of severe drought as the state government had not taken required steps to mitigate sufferings of the farmers.

''We have raised the issue of drought in Lok Sabha several times but nothing could be done as the state government has failed to make a formal request to the Centre for sending a high level team for the assessment of damage to the standing crops due to drought, '' he regretted.
