Rains affect life in Tripura

Agartala, Sep 22 (UNI) Life was affected in the capital city and other parts of this hilly state today owing to incessent rains since last three days.

The rains caused losses to businessmen as people could not move out of their homes.

Early morning rains hampered the Mahalaya celebrations with people staying indoors in most part of the day.

However, braving the rains thousands thronged to river banks to perform rituals.

Climatic situation is likely to remain unchanged tomorrow, local met office sources said.

The state capital received 62.01 mm of rainfall from 0830 hours yesterday till 1430 hours today.

The maximum temperature recorded today was 26.2 degree celsius and the minimum was 23 degree celsius, the sources added.

Soz appeals for more Haj quota for J and K

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-Din Soz today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to increase the Haj Quota for Jammu and Kashmir this year to accommodate all those who had been left out due to some reasons. In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Prof Soz said that out of 12890 applicants, 6617 had already been selected and now 6273 more needed to be accommodated for the pilgrimage this.....

Light to moderate rains to occur in AP

Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema in next 24 hours. According officials of Meteorological Department, rain occurred at a few places over Telangana. Isolated rain occurred over Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. AP CM lays foundation stone for 'Aga Khan Education Academy'

Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today laid the foundation stone for setting up 'Aga Khan Educational Academy' on 100 aacres of land, near Ravirala village, in Rangana Reddy district. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Reddy said the state government was committed to help the Aga Khan Foundation for extending its services to the people of the state. AP Govt prohibits sacrificing of animals on Vijayadashami

Hydrabad, Sept 22 (UNI)The Andhra Pradesh Govt today prohibited sacrificing of animals on the occasion of Vijayadashami, falling on October two by invoking the AP Animals and Birds Sacrifices(Prohibition) Act.
