NMDC receives Visvesvaraya Industrial award

Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) was today conferred the Dr M Visvesvaraya Industrial Award for best performance in large and medium scale sector by the All India Manufacturers' Organization (AIMO).

NMDC Chairman and Managing Director B Ramesh Kumar received the award from the state Governor Rameshwar Thakur, at a function here.

NMDC, incorporated on November 15, 1958, has grown from a single-product-single-customer company to a multi-product-multi-customer company. It has stepped up its iron ore production level to about 23 million tonnes a year, about 15 per cent of India's production.

In the last three years, production has increased by about 22 per cent, a press release said.

Singh continues as sole leader in Open Chess tourney

Kozhikode, Sep 22 (UNI) Top seed D P Singh of Jharkhand remained sole leader with 8.5 points while S Nitin of Tamil Nadu and K Ratnakaran of Southern Railways were close behind at second and third positions with 7.5 and seven points respectively in the ninth round of the First International FIDE-rated Open Chess Tournament here today. Chandigarh, Sep 22 (UNI) Punjab Cricket Club defeated Canara Bank of Bangalore by 38 runs in a rain-marred while Mumbai beat Rajasthan by three runs in the 13th Prize Money J P Atray All India Cricket Tournament being played here today. The third match between PCA Colts and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association was abandoned due to wet conditions on account of over night rain.
