NALCO bags CAPEXIL Award for 2005-06

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21: National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), India's leading manufacturer-exporter of alumina and aluminium bagged the CAPEXIL award for the year 2005-2006.

A NALCO release issued here said West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee gave away the award to its Director (Commercial) K.K.Mallick at a function in Kolkata today.

NALCO had exported 8.62 lakh tonnes of alumina and 95,747 tonnes of aluminium achieving the highest ever export earning of Rs 2,306.20 crore during 2005-06, official report stated It sold 2,58,094 tonnes of aluminium in the domestic market keeping a market share of about 30 per cent and registered sales turnover of Rs 5324.16 crore with a net profit of Rs 1562.20 crore during 2005-06.

Enjoying the Five Star Export House status and the first Indian aluminium company to be registered with London Metal exchange (LME), the company had taken up the second phase expansion worth Rs.4091 crores after successful completion of first phase expansion.

Sources said with the completion of the second phase, NALCO would raise its alumina capacity to 21 lakh tonnes and aluminium to 4.60 lakh tonnes.

The expansion projects also aimed at increasing the bauxite mining capacity to 63 lakh tonnes and power generation to 1200 MW.

It would also increase the export of alumina and aluminium substantially and forex earnings.

Buddhadeb bats for labour reforms,asks TUs to change mindset

Kolkata, Sept 22 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee today urged the Centre, trade unions and the corporate sectors to reach a consensus over labour reforms. ''The hire-and-fire policy will not help (the workforce) and the government, the trade unions and the corporate sector should come at a consensus over labour reforms,'' he said while speaking to industry leaders at a CII meeting here. Bharti to finalise retail model by October: Mittal

Kolkata, Sept 22: Diversified telecom conglomerate Bharti Enterprises Ltd will finalise the business model for its proposed retail venture by October, its chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said today. "An internal team of the company and consultants are evaluating the business model to be adopted for the venture.
