Musharraf arrives for a tete-a-tete with Bush

Washington, Sep 22: Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf arrived here today on the eve of his White House meeting with President George W Bush during which they are expected to discuss issues of mutual concern including terrorism.

During his two-day stay here, he will have a "working lunch" with US lawmakers. The Pakistani leader will also call on Vice President Dick Cheney and meet former US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

Gen Musharraf is also expected to have an interactive round-table conference at the Carnegie Endowment.

Before arriving here, Mr Musharraf had met Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in New York and reportedly apprised her of his discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Havana.

Foreign currency racket: Police officer among seven arrested

Sambalpur, Sep 22 (UNI) The Jharsuguda police has arrested seven persons including one reserve Police Sub-Inspector Sachidananda Nayak on charges of possessing one million American dollars. Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Santosh Bala said the Department of Treasuries of US was being informed about these people. Woman kills three daughters; commits suicide

Madikeri, Karnataka, Sep 22 (UNI) A woman killed her three daughters by throwing them into a tank, before committing suicide in a similar way, at Tolur Shettalli near Somwarpet here. Sachini (30), wife of labourer Ganesh, took the extreme step after she was allegedly raped by one Sudhakar. Police said Ganesh, returning from work, found Sudhakar of the same village running from his house when Sachini was alone. An enraged Ganesh chased Sudhakar.....

AP Govt initiates steps to strengthen bunds: Official

Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh Sep 21 (UNI) East Godavari District Collector M Subramanyam today said all precautionary measures were taken to strengthen the bunds at Sanepalli, breached in the torrential rains earlier. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Subramanyam said the situation was not alarming, as the water level at Bhadrachalam started receding and the level at Dowleswaram, would also recede tomorrow.
