Mother, child mortality rates decline in MP, claims Chouhan

Bhopal, Sep 22 (UNI) Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has claimed that mother and child mortality rates are on the decline in Madhya Pradesh with concerted efforts in this regard in the last two years.

''The government was committed to reducing mother and child mortality rates. New schemes had been launched to promote institutional delivery and to provide nutrition to women and children'', Mr Chouhan said here yesterday while discussing population control measures with Dr Ashish Bose, Chairman of the Task Force of the National Commission on Population.

The Commission was constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for ensuring adequate measures for population control.

Mr Chouhan told Dr Bose that the state government had taken measures for filling up vacancies of doctors, nurses and other staff in government hospital and to prove better health care for expectant mothers and infants.

Dr Bose stressed the need for opening more private institutions to meet the shortage of medical personnel and taking women centric health and family planning measures which will lead to fall in population growth.

Youth hangs himself after friend's death

Dubai, Sep 22 (UNI) A youth from Kerala, who came here looking for a job, hanged himself when he heard that his best friend back home died of heart attack under stress of separation. Santhosh(27) could not bear the news that his friend Jaffer Ali died just two days after his departure to Dubai, Khaleej Times reported. Nepal establishes diplomatic ties with Vanuatu

Kathmandu, Sep 22 (UNI) Nepal and Vanuatu have established diplomatic relations yesterday, Nepal's Foreign Minister said today. An agreement to this effect was signed between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Vanuatu at the permanent Mission of Nepal in New York yesterday afternoon. Rayareddi to move privilege motion on CM

Bangalore, Sept 22: Former Karnataka Minister and Senior Congress leader Basavaraj Rayareddi will move a privilege motion against the JDS-BJP coalition government in the state, during the special session of the Legislature beginning in Belgaum from September 25.Talking to newsmen here, he alleged that the Session was convened in violation of the constitution.
