Manipur retains Men, Women Championships

Hyderabad, Sept 22 (UNI) Defending Champions Manipur retained mens and womens team titles in the 17th Senior National Sepaktakraw Championships being played here today.

In the men's section Manipur defeated Asom by 2-0, while Andhra Pradesh defeated Delhi by 2-0 to finish third. In the women's section Manipur defeated Asom by 2-0, while Nagaland defeated Andhra Pradesh by 2-0 to finish third.

Results: Mens' Final: Manipur bt Asom (1st game) 21-10, 19-21, 21-4, (2nd game) 21-12, 21-13. 3rd Place: Andhra Pradesh (1st game) 21-12, 21-14, (2nd game) 21-14, 17-21, 15-10.

Semifinals: Manipur bt Delhi (1st game) 21-10, 21-13, (2nd game) 21-10, 21-7, Asom bt Andhra Pradesh (1st game) 21-7, 21-18, (2nd game) 21-17, 22-20.

Women Final: Manipur bt Asom (1st game) 21-5, 23-21, (2nd game) 21-13, 21-14, 3rd place: Nagaland bt AP (1st game) 21-10, 21-20, (2nd game) 21-17, 21-18.

MSPL's Rs 2,200 crore steel plant in Hospet operational by fiscal'09

Mumbai, Sep 22 (UNI) The 2,200 crore steel plant of MSPL Ltd, a Hospet-based mining and iron exporting company, will be ready for operations in 2009, its Executive Director Shrenik Baldota here today said. Mr Baldota said the plant will have a capacity to produce 1.2 million tonnes of iron pellet and 1.05 million tonnes of steel per annum and gradually plans to scale up its capacity to five million tonnes in five years. Centre accepts SEA suggestion on vanaspati imports

Mumbai, Sep 22 (UNI) Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA) president A R Sharma today expressed happiness that the Centre had accepted the Association's suggestion to canalise vanaspati imports from Sri Lanka through agencies like NAFED. Addressing the 35th annual general meeting (AGM) of SEA here today, Mr Sharma said excessive and cheap imports from Sri Lanka had seriously affected the domestic vanaspati and vegetable oil industry. Small tea garden workers settle bonus issue

Siliguri, Sept 22 (UNI) Workers of 92 small tea plantations in Darjeeling district would be getting puja bonus at the rate 8.50 per cent. The North Bengal Tea Planters' Association announced this after a meeting with trade unions of the small tea plantations.
