Maj Gen Ghotra the Colonel of Gorkha Rifles

Shillong, Sep 22 (UNI) Maj Gen Bhupinder Singh Ghotra, took over as the Colonel of the Regiment of 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) from Lt Gen Richard Khare at an official ceremony held at the 58 Gorkha Training Centre here yesterday.

A statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) here today said Maj Gen Ghotra was commissioned into the 2/5 Gorkha Rifles in 1971 and commanded that battalion. He was presently holding the post of Additional Director General (Procurement) at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army).

Meanwhile, the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Khare who was holding the post of Military Secretary, would be retiring from service on September 30.

'Thai coup not to affect bilateral relations'

Moscow, Sept 22: Russia has expressed the hope that military coup in Thailand will not affect relations between the two countries.A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry said, ''Implementation of the existing Russian-Thai agreements on further sustained development of friendly, time-tested relations between the two countries will continue despite the coup in Thailand.'' 'Border issues raised for survival of MES'

Bangalore, Sept 22: Leaders of various Kannada organisations today alleged that the Belgaum border issue was being raised by Maharashtra for the survival of Maharashtra Ekikarana Samiti (MES).Addressing a joint press conference here, Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj alleged that ''the border issue is being raised for the survival of MES, which has been politically wiped out.'' Stating that widespread support had been received for the proposed October four bandh, he warned that agitations would be launched.....

IGP Sandhya's report ''not satisfactory'':Govt.

Kochi, Sep 22 (UNI) The Kerala Government today told the state high court that it was not satisfied with the report of IGP B Sandhya on the P J Joseph case and had therefore decided to go in for a judicial inquiry instead of a criminal investigation. Advocate General C P Sudhakar Prasad submited before a division bench that the report submitted by Ms Sandhya in the case was ''not fully dependable''. He.....
