JIPMER staff stir enters 15th day

Puducherry, Sep 22 (UNI) Medical services at the centrally- administered JIPMER Hospital continued to remain affected for the 15th day today following the indefinite strike by the staff against the grant of autonomy to the institution even as 17 more employees were suspended.

The staff gathered outside the JIPMER premises and held a dharna as they could not organise any agitation inside the campus following a Madras High Court order.

Meanwhile, the administration today suspended 17 more employees.

With this, altogether 43 staff had been suspended, till now.

The outpatient and casualty departments were functioning with very little staff. However, only a few patients turned up for treatment.

During talks with Chief Minister N Rangasamy, the staff had agreed to drop the stir temporarily if the suspension orders were revoked and cases dropped.
