Indonesian warship on Andaman island visit

Port Blair, Sept 22: Indonesian Warship KRI Cut Nyak Dien is presently on a two day visit here for the closing ceremony of the month-long IND-INDO Coordinated Patrol.

The ship arrived here yesterday and was accorded a traditional welcome by the Andaman and Nicobar Command, Commander Anil Kumar the Public Relation Officer of Andaman&Nicobar Joint Tri-service Command said today.

Under the IND-INDO Coordinated Patrol, which was carried out recently, Ship and Maritime Patrol aircraft of both Navies carried out extensive patrolling in their respective areas around the International Maritime Boundary line. The purpose of this was to enhance mutual understanding and inter operability between the two Navies.

The joint patrol has been effective in preventing smuggling, piracy, drug trafficking and illegal fishing in respective area of interest of both the countries, Commander Kumar said.

During their meeting various issues related to the conduct of the Coordinated Patrol were discussed, the Naval Commander added.

'Tobacco free India to cut down cancer by over 50 pc'

Varanasi, Sep 22 (UNI) A tobacco free India held the promise of cutting down by over 50 per cent, the nearly one lakh fresh cancer cases being reported annually, a cancer specialist claimed here today.
