Husband sentenced to life in wife murder case

Rourkela, Sep 21 (UNI) A man was sentenced to life for murdering his newly married wife.

Rourkela Additional Sessions Judge V Jayashree today sentenced Anil Kumar Mohapatra (27) to life and fined him Rs 2,000 for murdering his wife Sudharani Rout.

According to the prosecution, Sudharani's parents paid cash, gold ornaments and other articles as dowry to Anil's family.

However, Anil later started torturing his wife demanding more dowry.

On February 4, 2005, Anil's brother, informed Saudhari's family regargind her missing.

Later, Sudharani's body was found on the railway tracks near here with multiple injuries.

The Railway police registered it as a unnatural death case and the deceased's father lodged an FIR against Anil and his family members suspecting foul play.

The Judge had acquitted all others except Anil in the case.

Bahugana against eucalyptus plantation in Punjab

Jalandhar, Sep 22 (UNI) Noted Environmentalist Sunder Lal Bahuguna today cautioned farmers of Punjab against planting eucalyptus trees and excessive use of fertilisers for achieving the bumper crop.
