Group of dissident DIC(K) leaders support KC(Jacob)

Kochi, Sept 22 (UNI) Extending support to Kerala Congress (Jacob), dissident Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) leader P T Abraham today said the "autocratic policies" of DIC(K) leaders K Karunakaran and K Muraleedharan have brought the downfall of the party.

Adressing a press meet here, Mr Abraham said a group of party workers from Ernakulam district was supporting the KC(J) under the leadeship of former minister T M Jacob as the leaders of the DIC(K) were following undemocratic policies.

He said 19 members of the 38-member party district committee were supporting the KC(J).

Mr Abhraham said out of 44 elected representatives in the local bodies of the district, 23 are supporting Mr Jacob.

A convention of the dissident DIC(K) leaders supporting Mr Jacob would be held on September 24 to chalk out future programmes, he added.

Rebel DIC(K) leaders William Poulose, K G Prushotaman, M Bava, Vincent Joseph and Lalu Varghese also attended the meet.

SC suggests reforms to ensure independence of police

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) The Supreme Court today suggested formation of State Security Commissions along with a national security commission to ensure independence of police force across the country. The Court also suggested that the state Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) should have a two-year minimum fixed tenure. There should also be separate wings for investigation and enforcement of law and order in the country, the Court.....

Five killed in house collapse at Beed

Beed, Maharashtra, Sep 22 (UNI) At least five persons including a woman and two children were killed in a house collapse due to heavy rains, late last night at Kuslamb village in Patoda tehsil of this district about 40 km away from here, official sources said here today. CFMG meet reviews cease fire progress

Kohima, Sep 22 (UNI) A close-door discussion was held at Dimapur between the Centre and the NSCN-IM representatives to review the whole ganeut pertaining to the ceasefire.
