Govt releases one lakh tonne additional non-levy sugar

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) To curb the spiralling prices in the open market, the Government has released a one lakh tonne additional quota of non-levy sugar for the current month, in respect of sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh Uttaranchal, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Bihar.

The additional quantity is required to be despatched by the mills with immediate effect and is to be completed by September 30, 2006.

Any unsold quantity at the end of the month would be converted into levy sugar, according to an official release here today.

The Government would monitor the retail sugar prices closely and extra releases will be made in October, 2006 if the sugar prices increase, the release added.

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Award-winning Oriya writer Partibha Roy has been selected for the Amrita Keerti Puraskar for her meritorious contributions to Indian literature.
