Free Doordarshan Direct Plus sets for NE states

Aizawl, Sep 22 (UNI) With the aim of hundred per cent reach, the Centre has decided to install about 1100 Doordarshan Direct Plus (DTH) sets across the remote parts the NE region.

Doordarshan Kendra station director, Lalrosanga said the provision of DTH aims to cover the entire NE region, where the population covered by terrestrial transmission is less than the national average.

These DTH systems would be installed in the selected villages and institutions, which are unable to receive the terrestrial signal of Doordarshan, he added.

Talking about the state transmission reach, he said at present the coverage of Mizoram population by DDK is only 73 per cent, whereas the national average is around 90 per cent.

The villages for installation of the proposed system were selected by the deputy commissioners of all the eight districts in consultation with the state information and public relations department, Mr Lalrosanga said.

Water resource regulatory authority for Arunachal on anvil

Itanagar, Sep 22 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has given a nod for constituting a water resource regulatory authority to regulate all the water resources of the state and its proper utility for socio-economic development of this under-developed state. Centre approves 830 crore for flood control in NE

Itanagar, Sept 22 (UNI) The Centre has earmarked Rs 830 crores for flood control and anti-erosion programme in the North Eastern states, including Sikkim besides, North Bengal. The various projects under 'critical flood control and anti-erosion scheme', has to be implemented within the 11th plan period, Arunachal Pradesh Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Tako Dabi told a press conference here today.
