Bangalore, Sep 22 (UNI) The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), engaged in popularising science and creating scientific temper among students and general public, will hold an exhibition on 'Nano Technology' in all its science centres across the country for two years from today, its Director General Ingith Mukherjee informed today.
Addressing newspersons here, he said the NCSM, which had organised several exhibitions on cutting-edge technologies in the field of science, had organised the exhibition on Nano technology to create awareness among students and the general public through interactive models and multimedia. The concepts of nano-scale, simulation model on Brownian motion and amazing nano-coated glass and spill resistant fibre were expected to arouse tremendous interest among visitors on the emerging technology.
The exhibition was developed in four months at an approximate cost of Rs 15 lakh, with assistance from premier scientific institutes here like Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research and Indian Institute of Science. It would be presented for the first time in the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore, from today till November 15, he added.
Mr Mukherjee said NCSM, an autonomous organisation under the Union Culture Ministry, had a huge network of 27 science centres and museums spread all over the the country.
He said there were plans to expand its wings in many parts of the country, including science centres in Ranchi (Jharkhand), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Sholapur (Maharashtra), Gangtok (Sikkim) and Kalimpong (West Bengal), besides one in Kathmandu in Nepal. In the last three years, the number of centres had grown to 27.
Mr Mukherjee said the NCSM also proposed to build a planetorium in Haryana in memory of Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla, killed in space shuttle crash.
To a question, he said that in Karnataka, a new centre in Dharwad was being planned and land had been identified for the purpose. The centre would be developed and handed over to the State Government for maintenance and operations.
