Drop autonomy move for JIPMER: CPI(M)

Puducherry, Sep 22 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) today urged the Centre to drop the proposed move to grant autonomous status to the Centrally- administered JIPMER hospital here.

Talking to newspersons today, CPI(ML) Secretary Balasubramanian said the move by the Centre, inspite of opposition from the employees of JIPMER as well as several political parties, was an atrocity on the health and family welfare of the people here.

Mr Balasubramanian said the development of JIPMER could be ensured by allocating Rs 300 crore in the present status itself.

Expressing solidarity with the striking employees, he said his party had held a demonstration to condemn the centre's move yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Ambedkar Marumalarchi Kazhagam here also urged the Centre to drop the move of granting autonomous status to JIPMER.
