Dengu on rise in Delhi; 125 cases reported this week

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) With the current phase of intermittent rains increasing the risk of breeding of aedes mosquitoes, about 125 suspected or confirmed Dengue cases have been reported during this week, which is almost double as compared to last week, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said today.

The total number of Dengu cases this year till September 17 have reached 200 out of which 115 cases are from the capital.

Maximum cases have been reported from Karol Bagh zone (25 cases) Najafgarh zone (23 cases), Rohini zone (12 cases) and Shahdara(S) (9 cases).

Seven deaths have been reported so far, the MCD said. Out of the seven deaths two are from Delhi and five from other states.

Appealing to people to take preventive measures to check breeding of aedes mosquito, the MCD said it is essential that rain water does not accumulate in household articles lying in open.

Checking during the week by anti-malaria staff in office complexes and residential colonies have shown high index of aedes mosquitoe breeding, it added.

''As many as 70 per cent coolers had aedes mosquito breeding.

It is a matter of deep concern and remedial steps are required to be immediately taken up by citizens,'' the MCD said.

Till last week mosquito breeding was detected in 37,249 premises for which 12,940 people were prosecuted and legal notices issued to 29,186 people.

MCD is launching a special drive for Health Education by organizing rallies and RWA meetings on Sunday, checking domestic breeding and prosecution, if breeding is detected, without issuing of any further notice.
