Damodar Sarangi assumes charge as NHRC DG

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Mr Damodar Sarangi has assumed charge as the Director General (Investigation) in National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

A 1972 batch IPS officer of West Bengal Cadre, Mr Sarangi was Additional Director General (East) BSF, Kolkata prior to his present posting.

He succeeds Mr D Mukherjee, who has been posted as DGP Tamil Nadu.

Jalandhar, Sep 22 (UNI) Environmental activist and WWF-India Secretary General Ravi Singh today said the population of various species has recorded a decline of 40 per cent globally during past 35 years. Speaking at a Nature Conservation Festival function organised by Vajra Army Wives Welfare Association(AWWA) in Jalanhdar Cantt here, Mr Singh said this concerning trend was pointed out in Living Planet Report Study done by scientists during the period of 1971 to 2005......

Haryana earmarks Rs 33.37 crore for drinking water, sewerage

Chandigarh, Sep 22 (UNI) Haryana Government has earmarked Rs 33.37 crore for drinking water and sewerage facilities in the state out of which under National Capital Region Programme (NCR), Rs 1.04 crore and Rs 2.45 crore had been allocated for water supply schemes and sewerage facilities respectively for the year 2006-07. Four-laning of Shimla-Kalka road up to Solan only, says Baalu

Shimla, Sep 22 (UNI) Announcing that the four-laning of the Shimla-Kalka part of the National Highway No 22 will now be restricted up to Solan town only, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu today said the decision was taken following discussions with Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.
