Civil society should be placed in state of readiness: Collector

Puducherry, Sep 22 (UNI) Puducherry District Collector Theva Neethi Das today emphasised the need for keeping the civil society in a state of readiness in order to reduce the devastation of natural disasters.

Inaugurating a two-day workshop 'Tsunami: Disaster Response Situation and the Role of Media', organised by the Press Institute of India (PII) and the Help Age India, he stressed the need to keeping the civil society ready to face any challenges of disaster for which the role of media and its positive reporting was very much needed.

He said the annual plan allocation for Puducherry was fixed at Rs 1410 crore and the government was now in a position to improve the livlihood of the affected people.

Listing out measures taken by the Puducherry administration for the rehabilitation of tsunami victims and the source of funds for the same, Mr Das said ''It is the duty of the society and media to ensure that these funds were utilised properly.'' UNI PAB VV HS DS1523

An Indian will win Major in next 5-10 years, predicts Randhawa

Ready to repel attack, parades missiles: Iran

Tehran, Sept 22: Iran today warned Western powers putting pressure on it to halt its nuclear programme not to ''even think about'' attacking it and showed off its missiles in parades marking the anniversary of its war against Iraq.''We seek peace.
