Chamber welcomes HC order to quash ban on colas

Kochi, Sept 22: The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry today welcomed the verdict of the Kerala High Court quashing the order of the State Government to ban the manufacture and sale of Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

In a statement here, Chamber President John K Paul urged the government to come out with guidelines for the production of soft drinks which would be abided by the manufacturers.

It shows that the government has been misguided or not been given complete information and had sent wrong signals in the international arena and slowed down foreign direct investment process in the state, he added.

The government which was trying to woo investors to the state should have taken a mature decision in this regard, he noted.

Four persons injured in a scuffle in Tripura

Court acquits 2 arrested in 2003 for possessing heroin

New Delhi, Sept 22 (UNI) A local court today acquitted two persons arrested from Mongolpuri in 2003 on charges of possessing 1.5 kg of heroin. Additional Sessions judge N K Sharma acquitted Hukum Chand and Jai Prakash, caught on January 19, 2003 allegedly with 1.5 kg of heroin and a mobile, after examining the witness from both sides. SE fined for pilfering power in Karnal

Karnal, Sep 22 (UNI) A Superintendent Engineer (SE) of Uttari Haryana Bijli Nigam has been fined for pilfering power at his residence here. A vigilance team of the Bijli Nigam, during a videographed raid at his house here yesterday, found seals of the meter tempered for pilferage. A fine of Rs 24,545 was slapped on him with a deadline of 72 hours. If the fine was not paid, a criminal case could be registered against.....
