CCCI threatens agitation

Kozhikode, Sep 22 (UNI) The Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) today threatened to go on agitation if the government continued to ingore the civil aviation and railway sectors in the Malabar region of Kerala.

Talking to newspersons here, CCCI president N E Balakrishna Marar said passengers at Calicut International Airport, near here, were facing many hardships due to the absence of adequate amenities.

Although the airport was upgraded to international status recently, no steps had been taken to improve basic amenities at the airport, which catered to vast sections of Gulf-bound passengers, he said.

Another point of concern was non-introduction of service by foreign airliners creating much hardships to passengers especially during peak seasons, he said.

The railway sector was also continued to be ignored as no steps were taken to introduce more trains in the region despite repeated representations to concerned authorities, he said.

The CCCI would send a delegation to Delhi in the second week of October to apprise Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav of the pressing demands, Mr Marar said.

Many overseas Malayali organisations, including World Malayali Council, have already expressed their wholehearted support to the proposed agitation to press the demands, he added.
