APPRC warns to file PIL against state government

Itanagar, Sep 22 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Co-ordination Committee (APPRCC) today urged the state government for immediate release of funds granted by the 11th Finance Commission during 2005-06.

The APPRCC said Rs 2430.21 crore had been granted to Panchayati Raj Institutions(PRIs) for creation of database, maintenance of accounts and creation of civic amenities in the state.

Criticising the 'dilly-dallying' attitude of the state government, APPRCC chairman Nabam Rana said the Committee would file a PIL against the state government if the money was not released within next week and the matter would be intimated to the Finance Commission.

Poet wins award

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 22 (UNI) Renowned poet and social activist Sugathakumary had been selected for the first ''Panampilly Prathiba Puraskaram'' considering her contribution to literature as well as social and environmental protection. The award, instituted by the ''Samskarika Sahithi'', the art and cultural wing of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, plaque and a citation which will be presented to her by Union Minister of Tourism.....

Three women killed in a collision

Hassan, Karnataka, Sep 22 (UNI) Three women, including two sisters, were killed and two, including a four-year-old child, injured when a Maruti van collided with a LPG tanker near Bharatanahalli in Alur taluk of this district today. Alur police said the victims were returning to Bangalore after a pilgrimage to Dharmasthala. The deceased were identified as Mohisina (20), Kajol Mukherjee (32) and Ritu Mukherjee (23). While two died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries.....

US trying to pursue ind policies for India, Pak

Jaipur, Sept 22: Indo-US relations have suffered because of the traditional hostility between India and Pakistan in the past and now US is trying to pursue independent policies towards the two Asian neighbours, an official disclosed here. The recent Indo-US nuclear deal is the manifestation of this new thinking in the US State Department, according to Mr Larry Schwartz, minister-counsellor for Public Affairs, US embassy. Mr Schwartz, while delivering a talk here yesterday on the concluding day.....
