Apang stressed on exploiting states hydro power

Itanagar, Sep 21 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang today stressed on the need for the maximum exploitating the state's rich hydro power potential to meet the country's insatiable hunger for energy.

Speaking during the signing of MoU with three central public sector undertakings here this afternoon, the chief minister advocated that the state's hydro power potential should be harnessed in the interest of the entire nation.

With the prices of fossil fuel going up exponentially and the pressure to protect the environment from pollution, hydro power is the only solution to meet the energy requirements of the country, he emphasized.

He said the present energy shortage in the country was estimated at about 1,00,000 MW and to fill the massive demand and supply gap, it would be an herculean task unless the huge potential of state is trapped.

The state government had came out with a new power policy with a view to speed up the hydro power development, he informed.

'' Government is also making efforts to encourage public sector undertakings and private developers to set up power projects in the state.

The state government has allotted five projects of 4800 MW capacity to the private developers and with the signing of MoUs, the energy scenario of the country will undergo a dramatic transformation in the near future, he said.

With exploration and exploitation of hydro power potentials , the state would turn from an aide-seeker to a donor state, Mr Apang said.
