AICC Secretary makes farmers talk to CM

Khammam, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today talked to the victims of flood-affected areas of Khammam district here on telephone at the behest of AICC Secretary P Sudhakara Reddy.

Mr Reddy, who toured the affected areas in Bhadrachalam mandal of this district here, made the farmers talk to the Chief Minister to let him know about their difficulties.

The Farmers explained their woes to the Chief Minister and the CM assured them that the government would stand with them in their hour of distress.

One farmer said that Mirch crop in 500 acres, pulses in 100 acres and food grains in 50 acres were lost due to floods that occurred twice a month.

Some farmers told the Chief Minister that they would not be able to take up cultivation again unless the government helped them.

Dr Reddy assured the farmers that sufficient compensation would be paid and help would also be rendered through financial institutions for taking up cultivation once again.

APHRC indicts district admn for children's suicide

Five naval officers awarded 'wings'

Kochi, Sep 22 (UNI) Five Naval Officers of the 64th observer course were awarded 'wings' by Rear Admiral M P Muralidharan, Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST), at an impressive ceremonial passing out parade here today. Addressing a gathering Muralidharan said training at the Observers School, equipped the trainees with the basics to man a modern and multi-mission aircraft and made them an important cog in the multi-crew environment. 'Sati' site ploughed with tractor

Chhatarpur, MP, Sep 22 (UNI) The Sati site at Baniyani village in Chhatarpur district has been ploughed with a tractor to prevent glorification of medieval ritual. Deployment of heavy police force and other measures were taken by the district administration to discourage people to come closer to the site where 95-year-old Karouyya Devi woman committed sati on the pyre of her 100-year-old husband Siyaraj Rajput, who died of prolonged illness on September 20......
