8 including a police official arrested in foreign currency racket

Sambalpur, Sep 22 (UNI) The Jharsuguda police have arrested seven persons including one sub-inspector on charges of illegal possession of one million US dollars.

Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Santosh Bala said the US Treasuries Department had been informed about the huge recovery of US dollars from the arrested.

'' Since last two month we were trying to nab the people involved in the racket,''Ms Bala said.

The police also apprehends the involvement of some more influential people is the fraud.

GTDC makes turn around, poised for growth with ambitious plans

Panaji, Sep 22 (UNI) The state-owned Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has registered a dramatic turn around during 2005-06 by posting a net profit of Rs 24.64 lakh as against Rs 4.69 lakh in the previous fiscal. ''We are poised for a stubborn and stable eight per cent annual growth from now onwards, with more ambitious plans for strengthening tourism infrastructure in Goa where tourist inflow has been on rise every year,'' said GTDC.....

Mother, child mortality rates have declined

Bhopal, Sep 22: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has claimed that mother and child mortality rates are on the decline in Madhya Pradesh with concerted efforts in this regard in the last two years.''The government was committed to reduce mother and child mortality rates. New schemes had been launched to promote institutional delivery and to provide nutrition to women and children'', Mr Chouhan said here yesterday while discussing population control measures with Dr Ashish Bose, Chairman of the Task.....
