Pavan Kumar Bansal visits Surat to assess post-flood situation

Surat, Sep 21 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Finance Pavan Kumar Bansal today visited the city to assess the post-flood situation in the state.

Mr Bansal, who had an interaction with traders, farmers and industrialists, said the Central government had took a number of measures to resolve the financial problems of the people affected due to the recent floods.

Talking to the reporters later, Mr Bansal said the Central government has taken number of steps to address the problem. In a meeting with the banking and financial institutions, he appealed them to consider the issues faced by various sections in Surat.

''The Central government had taken measures to provide one year morotorium to settle the dues of the flood-affected. Instructions were given to insurance companies to settle the claims upto Rs two lakh in 15 days,'' he said.

The banking and financial institutions would play an important role in helping the traders and farmers badly hit by the floods, he added.

Aga Khan arrives in city for two-day visit

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (UNI) Aga Khan the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community arrived here for a two day visit to Andhra Pradesh He was received at the Begumpet airport by the city Mayor Tigala Krishna Reddy, Information Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir, Industries Minister Dr J Geeta Reddy, Chief Secretary Harinarayan and other top officials. Gadkari blames Mah govt for malnutrition deaths

Mumbai, Sep 21 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP President Nitin Gadkari today blamed the Congress-NCP government in the state for the death of 7,700 children in last one year due to malnutrition. It was unfortunate that the High Court had passed the stricutres on state government on this issue Mr Gadkari said in a release issued here.
