Myanmar's leader seeks cooperation to restore democracy

Kathmandu, Sep 17 (UNI) Myanmar's Minister in Exile and the leader of National League for Democracy Dr Tint Swe appealed to the people of Nepal to support the country in its efforts to restore democracy there, media reports said.

"There were 28 resolutions passed in the UN General Assembly seeking restoration of democracy in Myanmar in the past but we have not received democracy yet," The Kathmandu Post quoted Swe as saying.

"So my party is going to raise the issue in UN Security Council and I am here to seek the solidarity of Nepal," he added.

Dr Swe stressed the need for raising the issue of democracy collectively in the entire South Asian region.

JIPMER employees continue strike, services affected

Pondicherry, Sep 17 (UNI) Medical services in the Centrally- administered JIPMER hospital here continued to be affected as the strike by the employees entered the tenth day today. The employees were on an indefinite strike to protest the move to convert JIPMER into an autonomous institution for which the Centre had already given it's approval.
