Zee Channel to start series of musical events

Mysore, Sep 13 (UNI) Zee Kannada TV channel will begin a series of musical events -- Nimooraag Gramophone Hachteevi -- across Karnataka, starting from the City of Palace from September 16 as part of the 'Suvarna Karnataka' celebrations.

Zee Kannada proposed to take this unique concept, which would be a tribute to the legendary Music Director G K Venkatesh, across the State in the next six months, its Business Head Venkat Giridhar told newspersons here today.

The event would witness some of the all time favourite compositions of Venkatesh, to be rendered by eminent singers like Rajesh Krishnan, Nanditha, Archana Udupa and L N Shastry. The show would be attended by stars like Jayanthi Dwarakesh, Ashwath and others, he said.

The programme would pay tribute to and salute the musical legends of Kannada film industry. Each programme would be a grand musical evening, with the current stars and singers performing, he added.

Mumbai court rejects Gujarat police plea for Salem's custody

Mumbai, Sep 13 (UNI) A TADA court here today rejected plea of the Gujarat police, seeking custody of extradited gangster and the 1993 Bombay serial bomb blasts accused Abu Salem in a 1993 criminal case filed against him by the Porbandhar police. The designated court judge Pramod Kode said, '' Salem is required by various courts in Mumbai, including the TADA court. Therefore at this juncture, his custody will not be handed over to Gujarat.....

Six gets lifer in double murder case

Anand, Sep 13 (UNI) A Nadiad fast track court today sentenced six people to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in a double murder commited in November, 2002, in the aftermath of Godhra riots. Jharkhand HC Gets CJ, Madras HC 2 Additional Judges

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Madras High Court Judge Muthusamy Karpagavinayagam has been appointed Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court by President APJ Abdul Kalam, it was announced today. His appointment takes effect from the day he takes charge of his office, a statement by the Law and Justice Ministry said.
