Topcon signs Mehra Eyetech for selling its GPS system

Mumbai, Sep 13 (UNI) Japan-based Topcon GPS (global positioning system) and Surveying Instruments company has signed Mehra Eyetech Pvt Ltd for selling its GPS systems in India.

Briefing the media after signing the deal with Topcon, which is the largest subsidiary of Toshiba, in this connection here yesterday, MD of Mehra Eyetech Pvt Ltd, Ravi Mehra said,"My company has been associated with Topcon for selling its medical and optical instrument since 1979 and now it has given us an additional responsibility for selling of its GPS and surveying instruments too".

The MD of Topcon (South Asia), S Nakamura said, "While signing Mehra Eyecare for this, we have fixed the target for selling the GPS equipment worth one million USD within a period of six months".

Priced between Rs 2-30 lakh, the GPS equipment can be useful for industries like construction, national highways, airports, mining and oil rigs. Currently, the Indian GPS equipment market is dominated by Sweden-based firm, Sokkia.

Later talking to UNI, Mr Mehra said that the Indian GPS market was worth 16 million USD which was likely to touch the mark of 1000 by the year 2020. Initially the company will be concentrating for the selling of the equipment in the markets in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, he said and added taht it may take 12 months for us from now before going to rest part of the country.

Mehra eyetech proposes to set up a new dealer network in these states and a state-of-the-art service centre with complete tooling facility in Mumbai for its customers in western india, thereby enhancing the Topcon market share for the GPS equipment in the country, he added.

200 booths in Purulia not safe, Dasmunsi demands CPMF

Purulia, Sep 13 (UNI) Apprehending violence during Saturday's by-election in Purulia Lok Sabha constituency, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi has demanded deployment of para-military forces. ''Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) should be deployed in 200 booths in the constituency as these were not safe,'' he told UNI here yesterday. Mr Dasmunsi, who also holds the Parliamentary Affairs portfolio, said these booths fall in Balaram, Manbazar, Arsha, Barabazar and Bagmundi police station areas.....

IMF new quota structure needs to be hastened : FM

Colombo, Sep 13 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today made out a strong case for early reform of the quota system of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and said the World Bank's development-centric approach should not be vitiated by overemphasis on corruption and governance issues. "It is widely believed that the present 'Quota' formula of the IMF is hopelessly flawed and outdated. Obviously, an ad hoc quota redistribution based on this flawed formula.....

Widow raped, nose chopped

Katni, MP, Sep 13 (UNI) A widow was raped and her nose and fingers chopped off by her brother-in-law in this district's Jangalpuraini village, police said. A police complaint was lodged yesterday. The accused and other relatives objected to the victim working as a labourer. Accused Kripal Singh was arrested. The district administration assured free treatment to the victim and sent her to Jabalpur for plastic surgery. The victim's husband died five.....
