Three policemen suspended over the escape of sharpshooter

Surat, Sep 13 (UNI) Three policemen, posted at the Silvassa sub-jail in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, were suspended yesterday in connection with the escape of a convict, Vijayakumar Chaudhuri while a judicial inquiry was ordered into the incident, sources said.

Vijayakumar Chaudhuri, an accused in as many as 18 cases, including the murder of trade unionist Datta Samant, had escaped from Silvassa sub-jail on Saturday morning.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli police have yet to arrest Chaudhuri.

Sources said that Additional District Magistrate of Daman, Prakash Chandra will conduct the judicial probe into the incident.
