Soldier killed, woman wounded in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 13 (UNI) A soldier was killed while the wife of an ex-serviceman was wounded in the Kashmir valley overnight, an official spokesman said today.

Militants attacked a security force patrol party at Brain Akhal in Qazigund area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district early this morning.

The security forces retaliated the fire and in the fierce encounter a soldier was killed, he said.

However, militants managed to escape from the scene, he said, adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab the ultras.

The spokesman said militants entered into the house of an ex-serviceman Mohammad Amin Badoo at Iqbal Nagar, Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla late last night and fired upon his wife Misra, who was injured in the incident.

Misra was rushed to hospital, he said.

Police bust a Hawala transaction network in Kashmir, 3 arrested

Srinagar, Sep 13 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police have busted a hawala transaction network, arresting three persons in south Kashmir's Pulwama district and seizing two Lakh rupees and grenades from them. A spokesman said police busted a hawala transaction network of AL-Badar militant outfit in district Pulwama of south Kashmir. Three persons-- Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Nadeem Ahmad Bhat and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat-- all residents of Agler Pulwama, allegedly involved in the hawala.....

Former MP died

Pune, Sep 13 (UNI) Former Member of Parliament and State Minister Shankarrao Bajirao Patil died here after a prolonged illness. He was 82 and is survived by a daughter. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh arrived here this afternoon to pay homage to the departed soul. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said, ''We have lost the architect of Indapur.
